{cmd:nmissing} lists the number of missing values in each variable in
{it:varlist} (or optionally in each observation). Missing means numeric missing
(that is, sysmiss {cmd:.} or one of the extended missing values {cmd:.a} to
{cmd:.z}) for numeric variables and empty or {cmd:""} for string variables.

{cmd:npresent} lists the number of present (non-missing) values in each 
variable in {it:varlist} (or optionally in each observation).

{cmd:min(}{it:#}{cmd:)} specifies that only numbers at least {it:#} should be listed.
Default 1. The argument may be zero or any positive integer or any expression
evaluating to zero or a positive integer. As a special case, {cmd:_all} or 
{cmd:*} means the number of variables in {it:varlist} or, with {cmd:obs}, 
all the observations specified.

{cmd:obs} specifies that counting is for observations, not variables.

{cmd:piasm} specifies that {cmd:p}eriod {cmd:i}s {cmd:a}lso {cmd:s}tring
{cmd:m}issing: that is, {cmd:"."} counts as missing. Some Stata users use
{cmd:"."} to indicate missing.

{cmd:trim} specifies that whether string values are missing is to be determined 
after trimming leading and trailing spaces. For example, with {cmd:trim} 
{cmd:" "} (a single blank) would count as missing.

{cmd:trim piasm} would specify that e.g. {cmd:" . "} counts as missing.
